The British airbase was attacked by an Iranian drone. According to unconfirmed reports, it may have been a Shahed 136 kamikaze drone.
No one was injured in the explosion, but minor damage was reported.
Personnel have been ordered to remain in place due to the threat of further strikes.
The attack came shortly after the British government allowed US troops to use its bases for defensive strikes against Iran.
Britain did not take direct part in the strikes on Iran, during which Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was eliminated.
British F-35B fighter jets deployed in Cyprus and Qatar are carrying out missions to destroy Iranian missiles and drones launched against Britain's allies.
The day before, the Royal Air Force successfully shot down an Iranian drone that was heading towards Qatar.
