The UK is accelerating the introduction of its new laser weapons DragonFire, capable of shooting down drones and missiles. Recent testing indicates that the weapon will be deployed on Royal Navy ships by 2027. It may be used in combat even sooner, as the UK is considering sending prototypes to Ukraine for testing.

DragonFire is a directional laser weapon that focuses 37 1.5 kW laser beams into a hexagonal arrangement, amplifying each other through a system of mirrors. This laser is capable of achieving the power required to transform metal into plasma at a temperature of 3000 °C and instantly burn through metal surfaces.

In addition, the UK plans to install a ground-based version of the DragonFire on the truck, which will allow further testing to be carried out to determine what improvements will be required for combat use, as well as identifying any potential problems. This system has no ammunition limitations as long as electricity is available, making it extremely effective at destroying drones that play a key role in modern military conflicts, including the situation in Ukraine and Gaza.
