Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security: France’s Senate urges the US not to end aid to Kyiv

Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security: France’s Senate urges the US not to end aid to Kyiv

The possible suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine over strikes on Russian oil refineries threatens not only Kyiv, but also the security of all Europe. If Washington suspends its support, the European Union must step up its assistance to Ukraine, as Ukrainian and European sovereignty are at stake. At the same time, European countries are already facing hybrid warfare that is influencing upcoming elections.

This was stated by French Senator Anne Souyris in an exclusive comment to the Guildhall news agency.

“To protect the climate, the sovereignty of states, and Ukraine’s future, neither Europe nor the United States of America should depend on Russian oil or gas. Reports of a possible suspension of U.S. aid for Ukraine’s defense over strikes on Russian oil refineries are concerning. Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security,” the senator said.

According to Souyris, the United States should continue supporting the Ukrainian state alongside the European Union, while maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia.

“We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and call on the United States, particularly the Congress that will be formed following the midterm elections, to support the Ukrainian state together with the European Union, and to continue sanctions and the isolation of Russia under Vladimir Putin,” she emphasized.

The senator also warned that if U.S. aid were to end, European countries would have to take on additional commitments to support Ukraine.

“If the United States does suspend this aid, the European Union will have to step up its support for Ukraine. Ukrainian and European sovereignty are at stake, while EU member states are facing hybrid warfare that is influencing upcoming elections,” Souyris noted.
